The International Day of Peace on September 21st urges humanity to set aside its differences and commit to making peace. Also known as Peace Day, this day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples, now more relavant than ever. On this day all conflicts should stop and leave space to cease-fires and attempts at the peaceful resolution of disputes. This year more than ever we hope that this wish will be answered also beacuse of the war in Ukraine. But it is sadly not the only conflict. The Annual report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that 46 armed conflicts were fought in 2021, half of which in Africa. The casualties were over 150.000.

It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments, and… the linkages between racism and gender inequality are unmistakable,” said Secretary-General UN António Guterres.
