INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

The International Day of Peace on September 21st urges humanity to set aside its differences and commit to making peace. Also known as Peace Day, this day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples, now more relavant than ever. On this day all conflicts should stop and leave space to cease-fires and attempts at the peaceful resolution of disputes. This year more than ever we hope that this wish will be answered also beacuse of the war in Ukraine. But it is sadly not the only conflict. The Annual report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that 46 armed conflicts were fought in 2021, half of which in Africa. The casualties were over 150.000.

The 2022 theme is “End racism. Build peace.”

2022 Theme: End racism. Build peace.

Racism continues to poison institutions, social structures, and everyday life in every society. It continues to be a driver of persistent inequality. And it continues to deny people their fundamental human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments, and… the linkages between racism and gender inequality are unmistakable, said Secretary-General UN António Guterres.
