
Thylacine (also called marsupial wolf, Tasmanian tiger, or Tasmanian wolf), largest carnivorous marsupial of recent times, presumed extinct soon after the last captive individual died in 1936. Its decline and extinction in Tasmania was probably hastened by the introduction of dogs, but appears mainly due to direct human persecution as an alleged pest.
Our name "VAKOVAKO" is a Marquesan word meaning striped. As striped as a thylacine.
The word "thylacine" translates to "vakovlk" in Czech. And our name "VAKOVAKO" is a Marquesan word meaning striped. As striped as a thylacine. And it's not a coincidence. We chose this extinct animal as a symbol of our efforts. We don't want to look at another extinction. Unfortunately, the "MOST ENDANGERED" area is full of endangered species that face the same Tasmanian fate.
