Striped as a thylacine

Our name VAKOVAKO is a Marquesan word meaning striped — as striped as a thylacine, a now extinct animal otherwise known as the Tasmanian tiger or Tasmanian wolf. And this is no coincidence. We intentionally chose this extinct animal as a symbol of our efforts and the causes we support.

Additionally, the word “thylacine” translates to VAKOVLK in our native Czech language. This is yet another reason our endeavors and mobile app take the name VAKOVAKO.

The name VAKOVAKO reminds us every day that we can’t afford to experience yet another animal extinction, like that of the thylacine. But despite this reminder, the VAKOVAKO mobile app is full of threatened and endangered species facing the same Tasmanian fate.
