Let's Fight Against Wild Animal Breeding

Don't let wild animals suffer in substandard conditions

Freedom for Animals (Svoboda zvířat) has long been dedicated to the protection of wild animals abused for entertainment (e.g. in circuses and zoos).

Together with supporters, they changed the law and now wild animals born from 2022 onwards are banned from being bred in circuses and acquired for dressage.

Moreover, for selected species of carnivores and great apes, only licensed zoos are allowed to breed and move them from abroad to the Czech Republic.

Unfortunately, there are still attempts to undo the success we have achieved together in protecting wild animals. We face constant efforts to allow as many wild species as possible to be bred and exploited for profit by as many breeders as possible. Yet it was precisely the change in legislation that was essential, for example, for the Czech Republic to stop being a breeding ground for felines.

We are a breeding superpower and only animals directly threatened with extinction are bred by more than 10 000 Czechs. A number of species, such as large felines and most primate species, require special conditions for breeding.

That is why private breeding of large felines has long been banned in most European countries. Freedom for Animals advocates that standards for animal husbandry should be set according to the needs of the animal and not according to the needs of the owners of the facility. The same animal should have the same rules set regardless of the facility in which it is found.

At Freedom for Animals, they closely monitor the protection of wild animals and are actively involved in ensuring that the law protects them despite pressure from various quarters.

We know from public opinion polling that many of you also want to at least maintain existing protections for wildlife species. Maintaining their protection is a priority.
