Protect the Amazon

Spanning 634 million hectares and eight countries, the Amazon is an essential carbon sink that captures and stores 123 billion tonnes of carbon.

The Amazon Rainforest is the biggest in the world – this is why we need to work with people who live here to save Amazon. Donate now to Cool Earth and support Asháninka and Awajún.

We can’t talk about the Amazon without highlighting the incredible rivers and waterways that stretch over 6,000 km. This artery of water gives life to 40 000 plant species, over 1,300 birds, 3,000 types of fish and 430 species of mammals. 30% of the all species on Earth live here! And all crucial to a healthy forest.

Beyond the rich biodiversity there are also people. Millions of Indigenous people from more than 50 ethnic groups live in the Peruvian area of the Amazon alone. People who have managed the land sustainably for tens of thousands of years. People who need our support to protect their home - the Amazon rainforest.

Rainforest and the people that live there have always been exploited. From colonialists and missionaries to extractive industries searching for wood, gold and oil to corrupted governments and ill-fated conservation attempts. All causing harm to Indigenous people and extensive damage to some of the world’s most valuable carbon sinks.

Believe in the Asháninka to protect the Amazon

The Asháninka call 60,000 acres of tropical carbon-storing rainforest home. Home to thousands of years of history, culture, and traditional knowledge. Cool Earth partners with four villages in Peru’s Ene Valley to ensure this way of life can continue in spite of challenging external pressures.

The Asháninka are the real climate experts. Their low-impact way of life protects rainforest far better than any government or organisation ever could.

The Awajún have always faced threats and always fought back

The Awajún are people that protect nature, not exploit it. Living along the banks of the Marañon river, they are the second-largest Indigenous group in the Amazon (after the Asháninka), their mutual coexistence with rainforest is their way of life.

The banks of the Amazon near Urakuza and Huaracayo, have rarely been seen as homes but instead as resources. We’re talking gold, oil, timber, mining and monoculture plantations. The real threat faced by people that live here, even beyond the climate crisis, is the threat of greed and the resulting climate breakdown.

Donate now!

Collaborating with the Asháninka and the Awajún people aims to create long-term choice beyond deforestation, through a series of community-led programmes as forest monitoring, wildfire prevention, fish farming, sustainable cacao farming and cofee production.

100% of your donation will go to the nonprofit Cool Earth, which will use it to provide Indigenous people with money to make a difference. Much needed financial resources for people trying to protect their home - the Amazon Rainforest.
