Selfie, Jenny, Galaksi and Rumba. Four orphaned orangutans now growing up in Forest School in Borneo.
Orangutans are losing their home faster than they can grow up. Rainforests in Borneo and Sumatra are disappearing to logging and palm oil plantations. Mothers die in conflicts with humans or end up in the illegal wildlife trade. Their babies are left alone. That's exactly what happened to Selfie, Jenny, Galaksi and Rumba.
Selfie is two years old, and her independence grows every day in Forest School. Jenny is also two, and has transformed from a frightened infant into a clever, cheeky toddler. Galaksi is five, small but mighty, turning every day into an adventure with friends by his side. Rumba is four, and has overcome physical challenges that would have stopped others.
Now all four are learning to survive again, with the help of human caregivers. And one day, if all goes well, comes the final step: a return to a forest that first has to be rebuilt.
Where your donation goes:
- EUR 45 – five seedlings for reforestation
- EUR 90 – a month of food for one baby
- EUR 220 – rescuing or relocating an orangutan to safety
- EUR 430 – a month of medical care and enrichment
- EUR 850 – regrowing a full acre of rainforest
