Fundraiser: A Boat for the Turtle Guardians

On a remote island, they guard sea turtles. But their boat is sinking.

On the Indonesian island of Denawan — unreachable by any regular boat service — a small group of conservationists lives with a single mission: to protect sea turtle nesting sites from poachers. The island is uninhabited, with no shops, no roads. Everything they need to live and work arrives by boat.

The boat they've relied on for seven years now has a thinning hull, takes on water, and has a broken engine. The guardians are effectively stranded on the island with no reliable way out — whatever emergency may come.

EUR 3,300 will provide a new boat — regular transport for the guardians, food and equipment. And most importantly, the certainty that if someone gets injured, they can get out.

The Save Turtle project operates at 6 locations in Indonesia and 2 in Sri Lanka. Since 2014, more than 4.5 million turtle hatchlings have been safely released into the sea. Last year, together on VAKOVAKO, we got the guardians Starlink satellite internet — so they could call for help and report poachers. Now they need to take the next step.

Help us get them a new boat. Every contribution matters — you can donate from as little as EUR 1.
