Help turtle conservationists in Indonesia
On the remote Indonesian island of Denawan, far from civilisation, a group of courageous conservationists watch over the lives of sea turtles. The island is uninhabited, with only one small house where they live and work. Their job is to protect the turtles' nesting grounds from poachers and ensure that these fragile creatures can return safely to the sea.
But there's a catch - there's no signal on the island. No phone, no internet. Conservationists are completely cut off from the world, whether it's contact with the police, families, or even the ability to call for help in case of injury.
The solution is Starlink satellite internet
Organisation Save Turtle is working hard to provide a reliable link for conservationists. Thanks to Starlink technology, powered by solar panels, they can access the internet right on the island. This will allow them
- contact the police immediately if poachers are present,
- call for help in case of accidents or injuries,
- share news, data, photos and videos of their work,
- to stay in touch with their families.
Why it's important
Sea turtles are facing dramatic declines and each nesting site is extremely valuable. Conservationists do work that directly impacts the survival of the entire species, and modern technology can provide them with both security and motivation. Satellite internet will add security and strengthen their resolve to continue their challenging conservation work.
