Fundraiser: Raising Bali's Next Waste-Free Generation

A school that cuts single-use plastic use by 90%

Indonesia leaks around 2 tonnes of plastic into the sea every minute. On Bali, a barrier on a single small stream in Denpasar catches about 15 kg of plastic a day. In the ocean, it breaks down into microplastics that make their way back to our plates through fish and seafood.

Change starts with children. The Zero Waste School Program by Yayasan Green Books Indonesia, founded by Petr Hindrich, teaches kids about waste through play and transforms entire schools: plastic-free canteens, sorting, composting. Participating schools have cut single-use plastics by up to 90% and landfill waste by up to 95%. And the kids take the change home.

The government doesn’t fund programmes like this. The goal is approx. €8,200 to bring 4 schools and 1,000 children into the programme. Only children who grow up sorting waste and avoiding single-use packaging can give Bali a clean future.
